The picture shows a very happy Hugh Chow, co-founder of ViSX Systems Ltd., receiving a Best International Business Award from Sherry Noble on behalf of the Chinese Canadian Entrepreneurs Association.
Hugh Chow is a bright and ambitious achiever. He sums up his success with one word: commitment.
He emigrated to Canada from Hong Kong in 1993; he was 23. He has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Hong Kong and a Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado. He quickly went to work in the high-tech industry in Toronto. In 2001, along with several partners and venture capitalists, he co-founded ViSX Systems Inc., where he is vice-president and chief operating officer.
The company is a leader in the high-tech industry. Hugh has developed and patented many of the systems their 130 employees market through offices in six countries worldwide. Their client list is not too shabby either, including such names such as Sony, Hitachi, Dell and Microsoft, just to name a few.
Hugh Chow is the kind of new Canadian who is continuing to make this country the leading country for opportunity. Since his arrival in Canada he recognised there is opportunity here for everyone and is running with it. Besides the word “commitment”, which he uses as his mantra, he also said this when I asked what he shares with others wishing to achieve: “Dick, beyond surrounding myself with the right people, perseverance and commitment are perhaps the two most important factors that have driven me. I also took a lot from Jack Welch, former CEO of GE. One thing he said that I carry with me every day, ‘Leadership is about being three things 1] demanding 2] motivating 3] fair.’”
Hugh Chow has been in Canada only 14 years, and already has achieved so very much. I wonder what the next 14 years holds for him. He is another Canadian Achiever. Read more about him at www.canadianachievers.com.
